A Fort Myers woman called deputies on her teenage son after she found several stolen items in his backpack Wednesday.

The boy's mother called Lee deputies after she found GPS units, WIFi devices, iPods, a computer mouse, and a laptop in her son's backpack which was left in a bathroom in their home. She did not recognize the items as her son's or any other family member's property.

Deputies performed database searches to confirm whether the items were stolen. Several addresses were obtained from the GPS units, and a report came back on the stolen laptop, an arrest report said. The laptop owner was contacted, and deputies say he was able to identify it and log on with a password. The computer was stolen from a vehicle in his driveway. Deputies followed up on addresses in one of the GPS units and were able to contact another victim.

The teen was arrested Wednesday at his school in Fort Myers and transported to the Sheriff's Office where he confessed. With permission from his mother, detectives drove him through the Gateway area where he directed them to several vehicles he had burglarized, many of which were unreported. He is facing charges of two counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, grand theft, and petit theft.
