The decision is still out on whether Natalie Lahnan is a drill sergeant, but Marco Island Adventure Boot Camp draws unanimous support.
The camp is a four-week outdoor fitness program that provides instruction, nutritional counseling and motivational training, designed to meet the fitness goals of the campers.
Lahnan says the camp is for women 18 and older. The good part, and maybe not so good in summer, is that the program is outdoors, running from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. There are three-day and four-day-a-week offerings. The 12-session monthly offering costs $239 and the 16-session class is $318.
Ann Campisi said, “Natalie isn’t a drill sergeant, only when she has to be. I really enjoy the workout.”
Anything outside is fair game for an exercise. Curbs can be used for stair-step exercises. The drive might be the place for weighted walking lunges. A mat on the grass is the place for stretching exercises. Using swing seats for pushups. A tree can even be part of the exercise program.
“It is never dull, there is always something new and you feel so free being out in the open,” said Mary Wilkins. Her daughter Katie also takes part.
“Natalie pushes you, but most of the time you are pushing yourself,” Mary Wilkins said.
However the old sergeant title came up when discussing working out in the rain.
“People did look at us weird when she continued our workout in the rain and we got soaking wet,” Wilkins said. “That’s when she was a drill sergeant, but it is boot camp.”
The next session is July 11 to Aug. 14. To register go to naplesadventurebootcamp.com or call 776-2162.
